Shirley O'Loughlin, KIRKLINGTON / BERRY HILLS / MELMERBY / HUTTON CONYERS / LEEDS / RIPON / AIRMYN / HOWDEN / HULL / CANADA? / AUSTRALIA? etc
John Wells (1843 - 1891) was the eleventh child of William Wells /Elizabeth Harker who farmed at Berry Hills, Kirklington. Consequently, there are connected Wells families at Melmerby, Hutton Conyers, Kirklington, Ripon and surrounding villages as well as at Leeds and Redcar.
John Wells was publican at the Black Horse in Ripon. He married Fanny Lupton in 1878. Their children were Jarvis, Harry, John, Heber, Herbert, Laura & George Hall. John (Jack) b. 1883 is reputed to have gone to Canada ? Occupation in 1901 Journeyman Baker.
Rosamund Ann Wells b.1830 married Charles May in 1852 at Kirklington. The family went to Australia ? Possibly 2 children: Arthur b.1855 and Augusta Mary b.1858 Victoria Australia ?
Christopher Wells of Norton Conyers / Melmerby died in 1781. Descendants went to Airmyn /Howden/ Hull in 1800's. There is a possible link with this family to the the Wells family who were Wine & Spirit Merchants in Ripon.

Roz Norris, NORTON CONYERS / WATH /
BOOTHFERRY.Christopher Wells was "of Norton Conyers" when he married
Dorothy WRIGHT at St. Columba's, Topcliffe in 1770. They had three sons,
Christopher (died in infancy),William and Peter (the latter
named after his maternal grandfather), all baptised at Norton chapelry, Wath.
Some time after1777 the family must have moved to Boothferry, parish of Snaith,
where Christopher died in 1784, though he was returned to Wath for burial.
The elder son William married his cousin Isabella WRIGHT at Topcliffe in
1796, and they evidently lived at Boothferry, where William ran both the
Ship Inn and the ferry. Isabella's mother died while staying with them there in
1816, but I have not yet got down to tracing any children of this marriage.
Both William and Isabella were still alive in 1827, when Isabella was named as a
beneficiary in her brother's will.
Any information on the family origins of Christopher Wells, or further details
about William and Isabella and their descendants, would be most welcome. RHSinfo

Ronald Wells,
It is believed that my great great grand father was William Wells,
who was born in York around 1834-36, according to the Census and GRO records.
William Wells appears to have died in Leeds in 1890, age 56. This would mean he
was born around 1834. The 1871 Census indicates he was born around 1835 and the
1881 Census indicates he was born around 1836. According to the LDS Family
Research records, a William Wells was christened on 8 Jan 1837 at St Cuthberts
Church, York. His parents were Leonard and Mary Wells, possibly Mary Raingill.
According to the LDS records, this couple got married at the Holy Trinity
Church, Kings Court, York on 30 July 1832.
It is believed my great great
grandmother was Rose Ann Condley/Conley/Connley, who born in Dublin around
1835-40, according to Census and GRO records. No trace of a possible birth of
Rose Ann Condley/Connley has been found yet in the LDS or other records. Rose
Ann Wells appears to have died in Leeds in 1910, age 75. This indicates she was
born in 1835. The 1871 Census indicates she was born in 1839, the 1881and 1891
Censuses indicate a 1840 birth date. The 1901 Census indicates a 1836 birth
date.
To date, no trace of the marriage of William Wells to Rose Ann
Condley/Conley/Connley has been found in the GRO records, but William and Rose
Ann Wells had the following known children:
James, born Wakefield, Yorkshire, around 1857.
John, born 1859, Leeds,
Yorkshire.
Mary Elizabeth, born around 1861 in Leeds
Agnes, born around
1869 in Leeds

Brian Dickinson,YORK, Gustavus and Leonard Wells of York. www.myfamilies.co.uk/gustavus/index.htm
I have during this year (2006) discovered that the Drake family, who marry into my Wells family, were NOT from Leeds, but Warrington, Lancashire, and other places. I have updated my website to include these new findings. www.myfamilies.co.uk/hwells/index.htm is the shortened pedigree, which only covers the Wells and Drake families, and other ancestors along that line, and I have also updated the main and much larger file www.myfamilies.co.uk/ancestors/index.htm
I have obtained the birth certificate of an Emily Marsden, born 2 Feb 1847 at Pittsmoor, Brightside Bierlow, Sheffield (Christened 7 Feb 1847 also at Pittsmoor). She is the daughter of John Marsden and Elizabeth Wells. She may be connected with Peter Phillips a researcher who is listed above.
Elizabeth Wells was born abt 1806 according to the 1851 and 1861 Census’ in Anston, Yorkshire. She and her husband John Marsden (whom I now know was born abt 1802 in Austerfield, Yorkshire The only Christening I can find that is likely to match is born 12 May Chr 19 May 1799 at Austerfield, to John Marsden and Elizabeth Saunderson). They had 5 children that I have identified so far (George 1830, Darnall, Ann, 1838 Darnall, William, 1840 Whittington, Derbyshire, Emily 1847, Pittsmoor, John 1850 Sheffield).
Looking for the marriage of the parents, there is a marriage in Anston, 8 Apr 1828, which is appropriate, as Emily has an elder brother George born about 1830 in either Darnall, Sheffield, or Whittington, Derbyshire. Darnall is about 11 miles form Anston.
Unfortunately, I do not know the father of Elizabeth Wells, but there are, in Anston, 2 possible candidates for the Christening of Elizabeth, one in 1803, daughter of George and Mary Wells, and the other in 1804 the daughter of George and Elizabeth Wells.
Also, there is a possible birth of George Marsden in Anston, 1833, son of John and Elizabeth Marsden, which would match the parents names perfectly, just that it would be 3 years out of date, in comparison to the census data, which I have managed to find George on from 1861 all the way through to and including 1901.
I descend from George Marsden, and his wife Charlotte Jepson. Also, I can be sure that Emily is George’s sister, for they appeared on the 1871 and 1881 census’ together, either George visiting his sister, or Emily visiting her brother.
Also, I am related directly
to Carolyn Royce, Janet Caywood, and the others as we all descend from George
Wells who married Mary Ann Reid.
